Where Creativity Meets C9 Challenge #10: Layered

9 Jun

Good morning!  Today we’re starting the tenth challenge for Where Creativity Meets C9 and our theme is Layered!  You can find all the details and the rest of the design team’s creations here!

We are sponsored by the fabulous Concord & 9th and one lucky random entry will receive a $25 gift certificate for a Concord & 9th shopping spree and our favorite entry will be asked to guest-design for a future challenge!

Here’s what I created:

You are a Rare Find by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Where Creativity Meets C9

I’ll admit…this challenge was totally out of my comfort zone and I was halfway to throwing out my card several times but I LOVE the way it turned out.  I channeled my inner Tenia (who is the queen of layering cards!) and tried different things.  Guys, there’s a staple on my card!  I’ve NEVER used staples!

To start I stamped the gorgeous floral heart from with antique linen distress ink and watercolored it using the “no-line watercoloring” technique with Daniel Smith watercolors.  I used Payne’s Dark Grey for the leaves and Quinacridone Coral for the flowers.  After it was dry I fussy cut the heart.  I also stamped the same floral heart onto vellum, heat-embossed it with silver sparkle embossing powder, covered it with spectrum noir clear sparkle, and fussy cut it.

Next I watercolored a piece of watercolor paper with an ombre wash of Quinacridone Coral.  Once it was totally dry I trimmed it down to 4″ by 5.5″ and splattered it with Payne’s Dark Grey watercolor paint.  I let that dry overnight and then prepped it with a powder tool.  I stamped the Stripe Builder solid stripes across the panel with versamark and then heat-embossed it with silver and silver sparkle embossing powder, alternating each stripe.  Then I stamped the sentiment from You Are Here with versamark and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I adhered the panel to a black card base and stapled the vellum and watercolored floral heart in the top left corner.  Finally I added a few glossy black enamel dots to the card to finish it!  So, there are layers of cardstock, layers of embellishments, lots of layers of paint, and layers of embossing powder!  I think it fits the challenge! 😉

And now it’s your turn!  The challenge ends on June 28th and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!  Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more design inspiration throughout the month!  Thanks so much for visiting and have a fabulous week!

A staple?…what about the stripes, the embossing, the watercolor….all those elements you created to make this block-buster of a card. Wow!

Breath-taken-away (your cards have a tendency to do that to me…often!) gorgeous, Jess! The colours, the techniques, the design…and even the staple (I’ve never used one either, and I have the staple-thingy from WeRMemory Keepers. Need to bring it out of the package!)…are a striking collaboration. Frame this…immediately! In awe….
