Christmas in July Week 2 (+VIDEO and a GIVEAWAY)

11 Jul

This is my second post for today!  For my Lawnscaping solo post please scroll down or click here.  Also to celebrate the new MarkerPop design team we’re giving away 5 $20 gift certificates.  For more information and to enter click here!

Good morning and welcome back to the second week of my Christmas in July video tutorial series!  You can find week 1 here!  This week I wanted to focus on using dies to create dimension and texture and my cards use very little stamping (only the sentiment).  This is another design that would be easy to mass produce and there are endless color possibilities.

I made a similar card last year and I really liked the way it turned out so I thought it would be a good card to recreate with a video tutorial.  You can watch the video below or in HD at my YouTube channel!

To start I die-cut the deer from gold shimmer cardstock.  I wanted a little shimmer but not the effect of glitter paper and this metallic cardstock from PTI is perfect!  The deer die has a cut edge on the bottom (to create the ground) and can be extended on either side by fussy-cutting the edge.  I cut a softly arching hill for my deer to stand on.  Next I ran the coverplate die through my BigShot to create that faux stitched texture.  It reminds me of wind!

Then I cut two hills from white cardstock using the hillside borders dies.  I trimmed the stitched background to an 1/8″ of an inch short of an A2 size and then adhered it to a white card base.  Next I adhered the largest hill.  I applied ATG gun tape and two way zig glue to my deer and set it aside to let the glue dry.  The two way glue is permanent when wet but repositionable when dry.  I used enough of the ATG gun tape to securely adhere the deer to my card but the zig glue is perfect for adhering the delicate antlers.  Allowing it to dry slightly means that no glue will squish out around the sides of the antlers.

Finally I stamped the sentiment with versamark on the smaller white hill, heat-embossed it with gold or silver embossing powder, and adhered it to my card.  In the video I mentioned trying different color combinations and after I finished the video I decided to try those colors.  I really like the hot pink and navy combination you can see in one of the above photos and I also tried mint and peach!

I really like unexpected colors combinations for holiday cards but, of course, gold and silver are classics, too! 😉

P.S. Fun fact, the music on my video today is performed by yours truly on my harp!  This month I’ll be using tracks off of my solo Christmas album on my holiday card tutorial videos and I hope you enjoy them! ?

giveaway

To help get you in the holiday spirit I have a crafty package of a few supplies that I’ve used to create each card this month.  The total contents of the package will be a surprise for the recipient but is valued over $30 (technically it’s $45 now…I found a few interesting things to add in)!  To enter leave a comment on each of my Christmas in July posts and this week, let me know your favorite holiday tradition (if you don’t celebrate Christmas, let me know your favorite seasonal tradition)! ? US and international entries welcome!

Thanks so much for visiting and have a wonderful day!

We don’t really have any special Christmas traditions, but we do like to play all of our Christmas DVDs and relax. In we are lucky, we get to have our lunch outside.

I love this card so much! You make it look so easy. My favorite Christmas tradition was making Christmas cookies with my grandmother. No my sister and I make cookies with her daughter and our niece, the daughter of another sister who passed away when she was a teenager. It’s always so much fun!

WOW!! Your cards are so stunning!!! I love the deer die!!!
My favorite Holiday tradition has to be at Christmas time. First we celebrate Christmas with my family on Christmas Eve and have dinner then open presents, then at about 11:00 P.M. we head over to his parents house. While his parents are at Midnight mass us older children cook breakfast for everyone ( which by the way is about 40 people and still growing) After we are done with breakfast we all head to the living room, pass out all the presents then we open them 2 people at a time starting from the youngest. Then it’s picture taking time of everyone. Parents with their 5 children, then each individual family then all the grandchildren then everyone. When it is all said and done we get home at about 5:00 in the morning only to be back at his parents house by 5:00 for dinner. I know it’s an allnight part of the morning but I wouldn’t trade it for a thing!!!

I love every single one of these color combos you chose for this week’s card! They are all so beautiful. You are a fantastic card maker! My family is obsessed with The Grinch movie with Jim Carrey, so we watch that movie during the week of Christmas as many times as we can stand it. My brother can basically recite the entire movie!

Simple but beautiful! My favorite Christmas tradition is driving about an hour and a half away to see a cool drive through Christmas light display. I’m a Christmas fanatic so, I usually go the day after thanksgiving if I can.
