Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #11: Cards for Kids

21 Aug

Good morning!  It’s time for a new Lawn Fawnatics challenge and we’re challenging you to create cards for kids!!  I decided to create an interactive box card for a slightly older kid!  I teach private music lessons and one of my students who started lessons with me as a second grader is getting ready to enter her senior year of high school.  So I wanted to make her a fun encouragement card for her final year of lessons with me!

Reach for the Stars by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Lawn Fawnatics

I started by die-cutting all of the elements for the Scalloped Box using white cardstock and patterned paper from Lawn Fawn.  I stamped the sentiment from Upon a Star on one of the panels and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder.  I also stamped the constellations from Upon a Star onto one of the panels and heat-embossed it with silver embossing powder.  I assembled the box and adhered all of the patterned paper panels to the box.

Then I stamped the bunny from Upon a Star onto white cardstock, colored her with copic markers, and die-cut her with the coordinating dies.  I also die-cut the Grassy Borders dies with dark green cardstock.  I adhered the grass and my bunny to the interior panels of the box card.  Then I stamped the stars and constellations onto vellum and heat-embossed them with silver embossing powder.  I die-cut them with the coordinating dies and applied a lot of spectrum noir clear sparkle to each one.  I adhered some to the back and side panels of the box and then adhered a few to acetate strips.  I tucked those acetate strips behind the grassy borders so they would appear to float in the sky.  I deliberately photographed my card so you could clearly see how they were attached but the acetate really fades into the background when you look at the card in person!

And now it’s your turn!  We want to see your cards for kids!  You can link up your entries on the Lawn Fawnatics blog and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!  Thanks so much for visiting and have an amazing Monday!

[…] Jessica created a beautiful Scalloped Box Card Pop-up to encourage a high school student to “reach for the stars”! I’m sure Samantha‘s card will delight a child with its cute elephant “painting” the greeting! I love how she has little the Elphie Selfie cutie sitting atop the stacked crayons from Color My World! Everyone has been talking about the eclipse that is happening today in the United States and that is exactly what inspired Samantha M with her very clever card! She used Magic Slider Dies, Out of this World, Push Here, Aloha and Plane and Simple. […]
