Lawnscaping Challenge #128: Sketch Challenge

18 Apr

This is my second post for today!  For my final guest-designer post for So Suzy Stamps please scroll down or click here!

Good morning!  It’s time for a new Lawnscaping Challenge and we’re challenging you to use our sketch for your inspiration!  You can use it as is, flip it sideways, change the shape, etc…endless possibilties!

Our fabulous friends at Lawn Fawn are sponsoring this challenge and one lucky winner will win a stamp set of your choice!!lawnscaping challenge #128 jessica frost-ballas

Okay, confession time…this is actually the fourth card I made for this challenge.  Sketch challenges are rough for me…I’m enough of a perfectionist that when I see a sketch I want to follow it TO.THE.LETTER.  And even though I know that I can put my own spin on the sketch I can’t seem to bring myself to do it.  So my first three cards were direct copies of the sketch and I just wasn’t happy with them but I wasn’t quite sure how to do things differently.  Then Saturday night I had some blog issues and ended up staying up WAY too late and I saw the beginnings of the sunrise out of my bedroom window before I crashed.  From my window you can see telephone poles and in my sleep-deprived haze I saw the shape of the lines in the distance and heard birds stirring and suddenly I had a card idea!! 😉

So I got a little sleep, did my normal Sunday teaching, and then got crafty!  I painted a small rectangle on a piece of watercolor paper using Picked Raspberry, Salty Ocean, and Chipped Sapphire distress inks and let it dry.  While it was drying I stamped several birds and the birdhouse from Home Sweet Home onto copic-friendly cardstock and cut them out with my ScanNCut.  I colored them with copics and added a little spectrum noir sparkle to the birdhouse window.  When the watercolored panel was dry I drew a utility line across the card and then stamped the sentiment from Flying By and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder.  I also stamped the dashed line from Flying By for my bird in mid-flight.  Finally I adhered the birdhouse and birds with a combination of regular adhesive and foam mounting tape!

Head over to the Lawnscaping blog to get all the details on the challenge and see the stunning creations from the rest of the design team!  I look forward to seeing what you will create!  Thanks so much for visiting and have a great Monday!

Jess, I’m glad to know I’m not alone with the everything has to be perfect problem, lol. Sometimes it drives me crazy and I of coarse tell myself to stop it, sometimes it works and sometimes not so much, lol. I love your take its really cute. TFSAI.

Boy, you came p with this in a tired haze. I’m impressed …it’s perfect. I know what you mean about sketches, they thwart me, as well. But you’ve knocked this one cleverly out of the park.
