Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Kraft

28 Oct

This week’s challenge was a fun one because I don’t tend to choose kraft paper when thinking about a card base; however, I recently got ahold of the Mama Elephant pigment inks and I was super excited to try them out!  Previously my pigment inks were just the cheap Colorbox ones I found at Michael’s and picked up one at a time with their weekly 40% off coupon.  Unfortunately the ink never really gave me a clean impression and I wasn’t terribly impressed with the colors.

So when I saw that the SSS challenge was utilizing kraft paper, I decided to make a Christmas card and a general Thinking of You card (I always seem to need those!) and play with those pigment inks.

I started off by stamping the My Favorite Things sheet music background stamp onto a piece of kraft paper with Simon Says Stamp Khaki ink.  Then I used my MISTI (more on that amazing invention later) and Mama Elephant Mojito ink to stamp the pine branches from the Stamptember Simon Says Stamp collaboration with Clearly Besotted, Holly Berries.  I also recently bought the Tsukineko Golden Glitz Delicata ink and used that for the first time to stamp the pine cones and sentiment.  It’s a simple card but I think the shimmery gold helps it make quite a statement!

Then for the second card I used two Simon Says Stamp sets, Sending Happy Thoughts and Favorite Flowers.  I stamped the solid flower images with Hero Arts Unicorn White pigment ink and Mama Elephant pigment ink in Blush, Piggy Bank (what a cute name!), and Apricot.  Then I stamped the flower outlines and little embellishments with the Tsukineko Golden Glitz Delicata ink.  I also stamped the sentiment with the Delicata ink and then sprinkled it with Hero Arts clear embossing powder and heat set it so that the sentiment would stand out a little more.

Again, another clean and simple card but it really stands out with the gold!  I may have to continue experimenting with kraft cardstock!  I’m certainly looking forward to using more of the Mama Elephant pigment inks!!
