Guest-Designing for So Suzy Stamps

11 Apr

Good morning!  I’m back for my second guest-designer post for So Suzy Stamps!  For my first week, I focused on using the same stamp in different ways and you can find that post here!  This week I wanted to explore a topic that is near and dear to my heart: sparkles, shimmers, and metallics!  (The more, the better in my opinion!) 😉

My first card features the Line Leaf 1 and Line Leaf 3 stamp which is also the stamp I mentioned as a giveaway last week!  Congrats to shartl for winning my giveaway!  Please send me an email via the contact button above and I’ll get that stamp out to you ASAP! 🙂

To start off, I wet a piece of watercolor paper thoroughly and swirled distress inks onto the paper.  While they were still really wet I dropped yellow gold liquid metal drops onto the distress ink.  Then I used a wet brush to spread the color and metallics around the paper.  I let it dry naturally and then stamped the leaves in versamark and heat-embossed them either in white embossing powder or gold tinsel embossing powder.  Next I took an A2-sized piece of white cardstock and swiped the edges over a glue pad.  I rubbed gold leaf flake over the glue and scrubbed off the excess.

I stamped the sentiment on a piece of white cardstock and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder.  I ran a loop of gold sequin thread around my watercolored panel and then mounted it to the gold leaf card base with foam mounting tape.  To finish my card I adhered the sentiment with foam mounting tape and added a sprinkling of metallic gold sequins.  The gold alone makes the card super sparkly; but when you tilt the card, the shimmer from the liquid metals catches the light and makes the card positively glow!

For my second card I focused on the stunning Fancy Butterfly!  I love all the thin, tiny lines within the shape and they stamp beautifully!  I stamped the butterfly on vellum and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder.  Then I turned it over and colored it with copic markers.  Coloring on the backside of the vellum gives it a softer look.  Next I fussy cut the butterfly and set it aside while I worked on the rest of the card.  I mixed jade and sky liquid metals to create a teal color that matched my copic colored butterfly and flicked it onto a white cardstock panel.  I also flicked black ink onto the panel and let it dry.  I took a white card base and added strips of black glitter tape to each side of the card base.  Then I trimmed down my background panel and adhered it to the card base.

I stamped my sentiment on teal cardstock and heat-embossed it in white embossing powder.  I used foam mounting tape to adhere my sentiment and to adhere my butterfly.  As I was sticking the butterfly’s wings to the card I deliberately curved his wings slightly to give it a little more dimension.  Finally I added a handful of glossy black sequins to finish the card!

For my last card…I decided to do a little plastic surgery on my butterfly! 😉

I figured why not alter my butterfly to create a different look!  I stamped it twice on vellum and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder.  I fussy cut the butterfly and kept only the right wing of each butterfly.  Next I stamped the dandelion on a piece of hot press watercolor paper and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder.  Then I squeezed a few drops of sky, rose, amethyst, and mandarin liquid metals onto an acrylic block and used a wet, flat paintbrush to pick up a little of the color to swipe across the watercolor paper.  I started by focusing the orange and pink on the bottom of the card and the blue and purple at the top but after adding the initial color I blended them together with a clean wet paintbrush.  Finally I overlapped the colors slightly to get the effect of a summer sky!

I stamped the sentiment on vellum and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder.  I tore the vellum into a strip to get a more natural look and adhered the ends to the back of my watercolor panel to hide the adhesive.  I mounted the watercolor panel to a white card base and then added the butterfly with foam mounting tape.  Like the first butterfly card I curved the wings slightly to get more depth.  The background was so soft that I wanted to let the gold butterfly and sentiment stand out without any additional embellishments.  The card is similar to the first in that it shimmers when it catches the light.  I LOVE the liquid metals and the subtle sparkle they add!

Last week I managed to make three cards with no sparkle…but I think I more than made up for it this week! 😉 Whew!  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you’ll stop by next week for my final guest-design post!  Have a great day!
