Blogs for Boobies Card Auction (Breast Cancer Campaign)

Good morning!  Today I am very honored to be participating in the 3rd Annual Blogs for Boobies Card Auction coordinated by Heather Timmins of Skipping Stones Design.  I am very fortunate to not have any personal experience with breast cancer (and I sincerely hope to never hear that word in a doctor’s office); but I have friends and family whose lives have been affected by breast cancer and I am hopeful that this campaign will continue the fight to end breast cancer.

This is a LONG post but I hope you’ll bear with me!

So, what’s this campaign all about?

More than 60 designers will be posting cards and other projects from June 1 through June 7.  Each card and project is up for auction and 100% of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

How can you help?

There are three ways to get involved with this campaign!

You can bid on a project.

You’ll find a list of all of today’s participants at the bottom of this post and you can find previous days’ participants here.

1. To bid on the card I’ve posted today:
  • Leave a comment below with your bid amount and your email address.
  • Starting bid is $5.
  • Only comments on this post will be eligible for this card auction.
  • Comments without an email address are invalid (sorry!).

(FYI, during a silent auction bidders sign their name next to their bid. Including your email address is the electronic equivalent of signing your bid.)

2. Comments will post in chronological order, so you will be able to see the current high bid.
3. Return frequently to see if you’ve been outbid and to place a new high bid.
(Below the comment field, you’ll see a “subscribe to post comments” option. You can subscribe if you would like email notification of additional comments.) 
4. My auction closes at 10:00 PM EST on June 8, 2016.
(The winning bid will be the highest valid bid at the close of the auction. I will notify the winner by email.  Skipping Stones Design will send the winner an invoice for the amount of the winning bid. Once the invoice is paid, I will mail the card!)

Skipping Stones Design will be donating $2 per stamp set purchased between June 1 and June 14. SSD is releasing six new sets as well, so there is even more to choose from!

Whew, okay, I think those are the main details…I did want to add that I wanted to do a little something extra for the winner!  So I’ll share my auction card in a moment; but, for every $10 in the winning bid I will include another card.  So, if the winning bid is $50, the winner will receive the card below plus 5 more cards that I have created.  Cards will be a mixture of designs for a variety of occasions!

Here’s my card:

I never enjoy creating sympathy cards but the sentiment in this Healing Wings set from Skipping Stones Design is so beautiful and I really wanted to create a card with a little bit of hope amidst the sadness with that rainbow butterfly.  I stamped my butterfly with versamark and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder.  Then, as I did for a card a few weeks ago, I masked the butterfly and stamped the wing again with versamark before embossing with gold tinsel embossing powder to get a more dimensional look.  I colored the wings with zig clean color real brush markers and blended them with a wink of stella glitter brush marker.  It really sparkles in person.  I stamped the sentiment and heat-embossed it with the same gold tinsel embossing powder.  I also added a gold tinsel-embossed frame and a sprinkling of gold sequins.
