Concord & 9th Feature Friday: Sew Seasonal and Uplifting Thoughts

23 Aug

Good morning!  I’m back to share more inspiration using the fabulous August release from Concord & 9th!  Today I’m focusing on the Sew Seasonal and Uplifting Thoughts bundles!

First up are my very first attempts at stitching on a card…which was A LOT harder than I thought it would be…yikes.  I went a little crazy for my first card, then realized how difficult it was and went MUCH easier for the second.  Ha.

I started by die-cutting the leaf veins from a piece of turquoise cardstock.  I used a metallic silver thread to stitch the tree…(I’m not actually sure of stitching terms so I don’t know what stitches I used) and then attempted to add french knots in peach, navy blue, dark teal, and metallic gold to create the look of ornaments.  It looks okay (I think) if you don’t look too close! Ha!  Then I die-cut the sentiment from white cardstock and stitched it with peach thread.  This one was quite tricky because I didn’t know how to deal with edges and corners….I’ll definitely have to do a little more Youtube watching before my next stitching project! 😉 But it was a lot of fun so there will definitely be more in my future!  I added the sentiment with foam mounting tape and then adhered the turquoise panel to a navy blue panel and a white card base.

As you can see I chickened out for my second card.  Ha.  I die-cut a few snowflakes and added some simple stitching and a gold glitter-embossed sentiment on navy blue cardstock from the Snowflakes Turnabout set.

My last card features the beautiful Uplifting Thoughts stamp set!  I love how the coordinating dies offer that fun sneak peek shadow effect!  To start I inked the leaves with mustard seed and wild honey distress ink, spritzed them with water, and stamped them on watercolor paper.  Then while the paper was still a little damp I inked the bottom of the leaves with a distress marker in barn door, spritzed the stamp with water again, and stamped over my orange leaves to add a little red shading.  I also added a few splatters of barn door and wild honey distress ink.  I let the paper dry completely and then took a mini versamark ink cube and swiped it over the bottom of the leaves.  I stamped it over the panel again and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder for a little extra sparkle!  I also stamped the sentiment with versamark and heat-embossed it with the same gold tinsel embossing powder.

Next I die-cut the leaves with the coordinating die which just cuts the edge of some of the leaves. I trimmed the panel down to 4″ by 5.5″ and adhered it over a panel of gold glitter cardstock.  Then I carefully curved the edges of the die-cut leaves up slightly to reveal the glittery gold cardstock underneath!  Finally I added a few nuvo drops in gold glitter, orange, and yellow to finish the card!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fantastic weekend!!

I just love how you’ve added gold to the leaves in the last card. That beautiful card is making the stamp and die set irresistible.
