Essentials by Ellen November Release!

10 Nov

There’s a new Essentials by Ellen release available today at Ellen Hutson and I’m excited to share a card using the beautiful In the Weeds set!  I love the unique sentiments and the beautiful floral image!  I am firmly in autumn love stage these days so I decided to go with more of a fall palette instead of the maybe more expected spring or summer palette!  After seeing sneaks of some gorgeous cards by my crafty friends I’m even more excited to see how versatile this set can be!!  Summer, spring, winter, fall…with a few tweaks to your color palette, you can use this set for any occasion!

In the Weeds by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Ellen Hutson

To start I stamped the floral image from In the Weeds onto white cardstock with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Then I colored it with copic markers.  I used the following colors (totally guessing on the flowers here…ha):

  • Poppy – R35, R37, R39, R89, W4, W6, W8, E44, E49
  • Lilac – RV63, RV66, RV69
  • Coneflower – Y32, Y35, Y38, R30, R35, R37, R39, E25, E27, E59
  • Maple Leaves – YR23, YR24, YR27
  • Red Foliage – R22, R24, R27
  • Slim Leaves – Y21, Y23, Y28

Once I was finished coloring I die-cut the flowers with the coordinating die.  I love how it cuts out all the in-between spaces too!

Next I blended Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, and Rusty Hinge distress ink onto a panel of strathmore bristol cardstock.  I used blender brushes for a lighter touch.  I splattered the panel with water as well as watered down Rusty Hinge distress ink for a little texture and dimension.  Once that was dry I die-cut the panel with a stitched A2 die for a finished edge.  Then I stamped the sentiment from In the Weeds onto the panel with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Finally I adhered the floral image with foam mounting tape to finish the card!  I love the pops of red and purple amid all the autumn shades of orange, yellow, and brown!  And I hope it inspires you to try different color palettes for different looks! 🙂

Make sure to head over and check out the rest of the fabulous release from Ellen Hutson!  Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fantastic day!
