Lawnscaping Challenge #129: Calling All Critters

2 May

Challenge #129, sponsored by Ellen Hutson, is to add some critters to your creations!  One lucky winner will win a $25 gift certificate to Ellen Hutson!

I created an interactive sliding birthday card using the adorable otters from Lawn Fawn’s Year Five stamp set:

You can watch the video right here on my blog, or click here to head to my YouTube channel and watch it in HD!  Make sure you subscribe to my YouTube channel as I’m planning to share quick card videos that won’t necessarily be blogged…then you won’t miss anything! 😉

To create my card I started by watercoloring the background with distress inks.  I let the watercolors dry and then die-cut them with the new Hillside Cover die by Mama Elephant.  I love that the hills on the die are cut so that you can tuck things inside them!  I decided to use the hills to create waves for my otters.

Next I colored my otters with copic markers and die-cut them with my Scan N Cut.  I also altered the sentiment by shaping it on my Misti to fit around one of the waves.  I heat-embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder and then adhered the otters in the waves.  Finally I arranged one of my otters vertically and adhered a long cardstock strip to the back of the otter.  The other end of the strip hangs below the bottom of the card and when it’s pushed the otter peeks out from the wave with his birthday gift!  For ease of mailing you can fold the strip behind the card and include a note to the recipient explaining how to move the card!

Thanks so much for visiting!  For more information on how to join the challenge and additional inspiration from the rest of the design team check out the Lawnscaping blog!
