Alcohol Inks and Die-Cutting

31 May

Good morning!  I recently had the opportunity to play with some new Memory Box products and thought they’d be perfect to combine with alcohol inks!

Alcohol Inks and Die-Cutting by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Memory Box

I started by applying RV09, RV19, and RV69 copic refills to a 9×12  piece of yupo paper with isopropyl alcohol and pinata brass metallic alcohol ink.  I used an air puffer (meant to clean camera lenses) to move the ink around until it dried completely.  And then I waited an extra hour just to be on the safe side!  When die-cutting yupo paper it’s best to make sure it’s totally dry so you don’t accidentally transfer ink to your metal dies.  Though if you do, you can just wipe it off with a Qtip and a little isopropyl alcohol.  Once everything was done I cut a single panel of 4″ by 5.25″ to use as a solid background.  Then I die-cut the small and large cosmos from Memory Box several times with the remaining yupo paper.

For my first card I simply adhered the panel to a black card base and die-cut the small and large cosmos flower from black cardstock three times.  Then I die-cut the hello sentiment from a combination of black cardstock and gold glitter cardstock and adhered them together.  I adhered the center of each flower to the card panel and then adhered the bottom layer of the sentiment to the card panel.  I used foam mounting tape to add the top layer of the sentiment and finished the card by curling up the petals of the flower with my finger tips.

I love how the brass metallic ink compliments the gorgeous gold glitter cardstock!  There’s just something about black, gold, and hot pink that I adore! 🙂

For my second card I decided to change things up a bit.  I started by carefully and lightly pressing my versamark ink pad on the antique leaf label die and then I carefully laid it on an embossing mat.  I placed a panel of white cardstock over the die and ran it through my Gemini as dry-embossing rather than die-cutting.  Then I carefully lifted the panel and sprinkled it with gold embossing powder.  The powder sticks to the delicate lines of the die (just make sure to prep the panel with a powder tool before running it through your machine) and heat-embosses to create this beautiful letterpress effect!  I also die-cut the same die with gold glitter cardstock.

Then I simply arranged my leaves over the panel and adhered them in the center.  I added my flowers adhered by their centers and then finished it with a heat-embossed sentiment from Big and Little Words.

And my final card is the simplest!  I used the leftover die-cut cosmos flowers from my first two cards along with the same scripty sentiment but with the cardstocks reversed!  Since I kept the background plain on this one I used more flowers to fill the white space!  Then I finished the card by adding the sentiment with foam mounting tape!

And that’s it!  I love when one 9×12 panel can create three totally different but still kinda matching cards (and leave me enough leftovers for a few more cards)!  Thanks for visiting and have a fantastic day!
