Crafty Christmas Collaboration #5: Tracey McNeely (+GIVEAWAYS!)

25 Jun

Crafty Christmas Collaboration with Jessica Frost-Ballas

Good morning and welcome to the next month of my Crafty Christmas Collaboration series!  If you’re new to my Crafty Christmas Collaborations you can find them here!  Basically the idea is that I know I need to start working on Christmas cards pretty early in the year in order to be ready with enough cards by late November…but I wanted to find a way to make it more interesting! 😉

Each month a crafty friend and I will send each other something to help make a Christmas card…it might be a watercolored panel, a few die-cut images, a few stamped images, embellishments, etc.  At the same time we will use the same items to create our own card and we won’t share what we’ve created with each other until after the cards are finished.  And don’t forget to check out the bottom of my post for details on how you can join in the fun and enter two giveaways!  My June guest is the amazing Tracey McNeely!

Tracey makes beautiful and fun CAS cards but I first discovered her during her fabulous 25 Days of Christmas Tags series a few years ago.  I’ve never been great at making tags but Tracey inspires me to give it a go! 😉 You should definitely check out her series for some extra holiday inspiration!  And if you don’t follow her on Instagram, you definitely should! 😉

This is what Tracey sent me:

I LOVE the Birch Press stuff!  They’ve been on my wishlist for awhile now and I think I need to move them higher up after seeing those gorgeous trees! 😉

And this is what I created:

I decided to go with tags this month in honor of Tracey but she sent so much great stuff that I had enough for a card too! 😉

Tracey included a bunch of cardstock so I die-cut a piece with the scalloped tag die to create my shaker frame.  Then I took the light blue cardstock and smooshed broken china distress ink onto it to create a background.  I die cut that with the same scalloped tag die.  Next I adhered the layered trees behind the white frame, adhered acetate and then built up a frame with a double layer of foam mounting tape.  I filled it with sparkling clear sequins and the snowflakes and then adhered the background layer.  Then I trimmed ‘Let It’ down to a fishtail banner, tucked it behind the shaker frame and added the word ‘Snow’ on top!  A little extra spectrum noir clear sparkle to the trees and a bit of ribbon and my tag was finished!

As I said earlier I had lots of leftover goodies from Tracey so I used them to create a quick card.  I layered the trees behind that fun die-cut panel and then adhered them to the silver glitter background.  I added a few of the snowflakes and voila, a quick card that’s sparkly, bright, and eye-catching!  That’s definitely a design that will go into my mass-production ideas!

And this is what I sent to Tracey:

And this is what I created:

Again I knew I wanted to make a tag so I tried to send lots of little things that could be used in different ways.  I decided to layer vellum over my patterned paper to tone it down a bit.  Then I colored my snowman with copics, added spectrum noir clear sparkle to his scarf, and pressed a versamark pad over the entire snowman.  I heat-embossed him with clear embossing powder twice to get a nice glossy image and then adhered him to the vellum.  I added my die-cut sentiment and then finished the tag with a little ribbon and a sprinkling of sequins!

So, yes, a little deviation from Christmas cards but stocking up on tags is always helpful too! 😉

I wanted to find a way to include as many crafty friends as I could so I’m including a link-up that will last ALL year long!  Please use my cards or any of my previous collaborator’s cards as your inspiration and link-up a holiday card!  You can use the color schemes, layouts, specific stamps and dies, or techniques for your inspiration.  Include the Crafty Christmas Collaboration badge at the top of this post in your post and link to the month you’re using for inspiration for a chance to be included in the big Christmas giveaway.  After the final post on December 25th, 2017 one lucky entry will win a $100 gift card to the crafty store of their choice!  To make it a little easier to play along you can head here to find all the previous posts and the link-up!

An InLinkz Link-up

And each month I’ll have a smaller giveaway featuring one of the companies I used on that month’s card.  This month I’m giving away a $25 gift card to Birch Press Designs to one lucky commenter!  Please leave a comment on both my blog and Tracey’s blog for a chance to win!  I’d love to know your thoughts on this series!  Please leave your comment before 11:59 PM EST on July 24th, 2017 and the winner will be announced during July’s collaboration!

Finally, last month’s winner of the $25 gift card to My Favorite Things is:

Becca, please send me an email via the contact button in the menu above and I’ll get that out to you ASAP!

Thanks so much for visiting and have a wonderful day!

Such a great idea! I love the Christmas tag that you made. Each year I keep telling myself that I’m going to make my own tags but I haven’t yet. I am feeling inspired to make some now! Thanks 🙂

Worderful card and tags. I’m also a huge fan of Tracey’s 25 Tags for Christmas event. I usually turn the tags I make for this event into cards later on. My 2017 Christmas card counter is at 21 right now, so I had better speed things up if I want to reach 80 by the end of October. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you so much, Jess – I am thrilled. I sent you a message through your link, but not sure if it went through (got a message “this page can’t be displayed” after I submitted it). I will try again later just in case.
I absolutely love your cute tags. I love shakers and I adore snowmen. Win, win. And the card is very elegant with the pretty silver glitter paper.

I love that you did tags this month! That is kinda Tracey’s thing isn’t it? 🙂 I am feeling the same thing about these Birch Press Design products…even more so after seeing your beautiful projects. I had forgotten about them, but not anymore. Just beautiful, Jess!
