Christmas Card Challenges #2: CAS

14 Dec

I had a lot of fun with this week’s Christmas Card Challenge.  CAS cards don’t always come easily to me but this one just worked.  I tend to want to add more and more to a card…which sometimes works but sometimes (REALLY) doesn’t.  Anyway, I love this card.  It was super easy to put together and could be easily mass-produced.

I used Neenah Solar White cardstock to cut the WPlus9 stag from the Stag Trio dies.  I didn’t want him to totally blend in with the card base so I did go over him with my Wink of Stella clear glitter pen.  It’s not super obvious in the photo but it gives him a nice shimmer.  I used a punch to cut his nose from red glitter paper from a DCWV pack.  I didn’t do this with my card (I was trying to stick with CAS…) but you could cover the deer with glossy accents or ultra high embossing powder for even more shine and dimension.

For the card base I started off by using my score board to add two vertical accent lines on either side of the card then I stamped the sentiment from Mama Elephant’s Merry Greetings with Apple pigment ink (also from Mama Elephant) and heat embossed it with Hero Arts clear embossing powder.  Finally, I attached the deer with foam mounting tape to give him a little dimension.

I actually made 10 of these cards and it took me about 30 minutes…the longest part of the process was attaching foam tape to the deer (especially those antlers).  But I wanted to take a minute to rave about my favorite new crafting tool: the MISTI!  It’s starting to gain more attention and after being part of Jennifer McGuire’s Favorite Crafty Things for 2014 it’s sure to become even more popular.  I bought one of the original designs (laser-etched, not screen-printed) a few months ago and I highly recommend it.  It makes stamping sentiments straight, centered, and precise so easy.  Plus it’s a life-saver when I stamp an intricate design or sentiment and one tiny part doesn’t stamp all the way….using the MISTI I can easily and accurately restamp the image and fix the problem.

Anyway, we had a lot of great entries last week and I look forward to seeing what you all create this week for our CAS design theme!  By the way, if you hadn’t heard…we’re choosing winners (1 overall winner plus our top 3 favorites) each week who will receive a badge for their blog!  Congratulations to this week’s winners and I hope to see your designs soon!

This is CAS perfection Jess and I love it. The pops of red make it look so festive and the glitter on the deer gives just the right amount of interest!!! I’m glad to hear you are enjoying your MISTI – I have one ordered but it won’t be here until sometime in January:(
