Experiments with Stippling

23 Nov

Good morning and Happy Black Friday!  If you’re looking for my Simon Says Stamp Black Friday Sales post please scroll down or click here.

Today I’m excited to be guest-designing for Purple Onion Designs!  They have absolutely adorable rubber cling stamp designs featuring the cutest critters!  Today I decided to experiment with different copic techniques to create my card!

Merry Christmas by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Purple Onion Designs

I’ve been trying to push myself to try new things and this is definitely one of those times!  To start I stamped the Claus cling stamp onto a piece of white cardstock with versafine and heat-embossed him with clear embossing powder.  Then I stamped him onto a post-it notes and fussy cut the image to create a mask.  I masked him and then stamped the Pine Tree Farm cling stamp over the bunny with versafine, removed the post-it note, and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Next I created a mask for the Tree Farm stamp and placed both masks over the images.  I blended the background using shaded lilac, faded jeans, stormy sky, and chipped sapphire distress ink.  Once the blending was complete I spritzed the panel with water a few times to lighten areas.  Then I blotted it dry and spritzed it with iridescent shimmer spray.  Next I splattered it with white gouache, removed the masks, and let it dry thoroughly.

Once it was totally dry I started coloring the images with copic markers.  I laid down a base layer on the bunny and then used a stippling technique to add texture and layers with darker marker shades.  I used a similar technique to create the snowy banks and the trees.  It was fun to try something new and I like how it really gives the images dimension and texture!  Next, of course, I applied a little nuvo crystal glaze to parts of the trees, snow, hat, and mittens and sprinkled it with chunky and prisma glitter.  I also added a little spectrum noir clear sparkle to the hat and mittens!  Finally I stamped a sentiment from the Essential Holiday Greetings set onto red cardstock with versamark, heat-embossed it with white embossing powder, trimmed it down to a fishtail label, and adhered it to the card with foam mounting tape!  I hope you’ll give this technique a try…it’s quite fun and the results are very different from traditional copic coloring!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and have a wonderful weekend!
