CASE Me a Christmas Card with Michelle Lupton

21 Dec

Good afternoon!  Today I’m excited to be joining my crafty friend Michelle for another year of her Christmas card challenges!  You can find the last three years here, here, and here! This year Michelle is changing things up a bit and has asked all the participants to CASE one of her cards and she’s CASE-ing one of mine!  You can find her post here!

If CASE is new to you it stands for Copy And Share Everything.  In literal terms it can be used to describe a card of someone else’s that you copy to the exact detail.  But usually it’s used more when you reference someone else’s card as inspiration for your own.  You can use as many card elements for your inspiration as you’d like and I’ll explain how I used Michelle’s card as my inspiration but added a few tweaks to make it my own!

Here’s Michelle’s card that I CASEd:

And here’s what I created:

Let it Snow by Jessica Frost-Ballas

I chose to use quite a few elements of her gorgeous design as inspiration for my card but it still has its own uniqueness!  I started by watercoloring a background with a variety of purple and pink shimmery hydracolour watercolors on black cardstock.  I used a limited amount of water since I was using regular cardstock and not watercolor cardstock and I didn’t want the paper to buckle.  It’s hard to photograph, but these paints really change shades as the metallics catch the light and they are kinda similar to the pearlescent alcohol inks Michelle used in her card!  I added splatters for additional interest and then let the panel dry.

Let it Snow by Jessica Frost-Ballas

While the panel was drying I die-cut a variety of snowflakes from Lawn Fawn from silver screen glitter cardstock.  I stamped the sentiment from Honey Bee stamps onto black cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with silver glitter embossing powder before die-cutting it with the coordinating die.  Once the background panel was totally dry I adhered the snowflakes with liquid glue and then added the sentiment with foam mounting tape to finish the card!  I love all the shimmer and sparkle!  This is my first time using the hydracolour watercolors and I’m excited to play with them some more!

Head over to see what Michelle created and make sure to check out the rest of her fun series! 🙂 Big thanks to Michelle for inviting me to join her and thanks to you for stopping by today!  Have an amazing day!
