Christmas Card Challenges #24

17 May

Good afternoon and welcome to another Christmas Card Challenge!  This week we have a sweet and fun photo for your inspiration!

However, please remember that the only rule is that you create a Christmas card so we’d love to have you play along even if your card doesn’t fit this inspiration photo!  Here’s what I came up with!

I decided to use the color scheme and focus on the candy canes.  I’m still a little wary of cookies after my last attempt at making a cookie card! 😉

I started off by die-cutting the sentiment from patterned papers with Cole’s ABCs from Lawn Fawn.  I used my paper trimmer to cut two strips from the green patterned paper.  And finally I cut out one of the candy canes from the paper pad and coated it with glossy accents.

Next I die-cut the mug from the 2014 October Simon Says Stamp card kit and the snowflake from the WPlus9 Snowflake Trio.  I covered the snowflake with clear wink of stella and then coated it with glossy accents and set it aside to dry.  I knew I wanted to adhere the snowflake in the middle of the mug but the actual mug die has a heart in the center.  Initially I just tried to cover up the heart with the snowflake but that didn’t really work…so I cut out a small piece of fun foam and stuck it over the heart before running the die through my big shot.  The fun foam left a little bit of an impression in the mug (which isn’t visible through the snowflake) but kept the die from cutting through the cardstock!

To assemble the card I glued down the strips and then used the bottom strip as a guide for gluing down the letters.  Next I used a piece of fun foam to adhere the mug to the card.  I took a small piece of tissue wrapping paper and stuck it on top of the mug to resemble whipped cream.  I used a glue dot to keep it in place and then covered it with clear stickles for a little extra sparkle.  I tucked in the candy cane and adhered the snowflake.

And that’s it!  Ha, I definitely took advantage of the ability to use patterned papers this week! 😉

I hope you’ll play along with this sweet photo and I look forward to seeing your entries this week!  And for even more inspiration, don’t forget to visit the rest of the design team!
