Ink Blending on Colored Cardstock – Rabbit Hole Designs August Release

24 Aug

Good morning!  Today I have a card featuring one of the new release sets from The Rabbit Hole Designs, Flamingo Botanical!

Flamingo Botanical by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Rabbit Hole Designs

I love ink blending but sometimes it’s nice to cheat a bit by starting out with a colored cardstock!  Then you have less work to do!  So I started out with an A2 panel of Hero Arts Lapis cardstock which is a beautiful medium shade of blue.  Then I used blending brushes from Rabbit Hole Designs to blend Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot distress oxide ink around the edges of the panel.  I love the price point of these brushes and the fact that they’re just plain white so you can easily indicate whatever color you want assigned for each brush!

I let the panel dry completely and then randomly stamped the peony from the Flamingo Botanical set all over the panel with versamark and heat-embossed it with brass embossing powder.  Then I colored some of the flowers with my spectrum noir clear sparkle brush.  It added a gorgeous shimmer to the flowers and lightened them at the same time.  Once it dried I added splatters of metallic gold paint across the panel and then painted the centers of the flowers with the same gold paint.  Finally I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock and heat-embossed it with the same brass embossing powder.  I also added a strip of white cardstock that I pressed with versamark and heat-embossed with brass powder and a strip of lapis cardstock for interest. I cut them all at an angle and then adhered them to the panel with foam mounting tape.  It’s quite simple to create but I think it makes quite an impression!  Unfortunately it’s not easy to photograph the shimmer but it really sparkles when it catches the light! 🙂

Make sure to head over and check out the full release from Rabbit Hole Designs (and don’t forget their awesome blending brushes!)  Thanks so much for visiting and have a fantastic Monday!

    Jessica,
I LOVE the “Bloom Where You Are Planted” card! It’s stunning! I would never have thought to put the design on blue, but it really works. Nice work and thanks for the idea. I also must compliment your spelling and grammar. You always write and spell well. I deeply appreciate not having the distraction that I often encounter on other sites where things are misspelled a/o poorly written and an effort to read. Thanks!!

Jessica, thank you for bringing this set to life, I love that you used blue card stock and highlighted with sparkle. Such a pretty card that brings it all and I am sure any recipient would love to get.
