Introducing Shaker Saturday, Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop, and a GIVEAWAY!

28 Feb

I’ve decided to fully embrace my obsession with shaker cards…and start a Shaker Saturday series!  To get this series going I created a coffee-themed card for the Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

SpringCoffeeLoversBH-011-300x180I wanted to challenge myself to make a shaker card with several compartments and I thought coffee, steam, and a little decorative accent would be perfect shaker elements…here’s my card!

shaker saturdays spring coffee lovers blog hop www.allthesparkle.comI used a cut file from my Silhouette library and cut the mug from Neenah Solar White card stock and the steam from a patterned paper I was using for the background.  To create the table for my mug, I stamped and heat embossed the wood grain stamp onto a piece of card stock and then used the direct-to-paper technique to apply color.

I used foam mounting tape to create the compartments and filled the heart with the Strawberries and Cream Couture sequin mix and the steam with the Glass Slippers mixed size sequins from The Ton!  I filled the coffee compartment with kraft sequins from Avery Elle (I believe they’re discontinued) and Dark Chocolate sequins from Neat and Tangled.  I also made individual shakers for each curl of steam so the sequins would be spread throughout.  There’s a little extra dimension because the steam is part of the background and the mug is raised.  It’s not very obvious in the photo but I also colored the background of the steam with my clear Wink of Stella brush pen to give it a little extra sparkle!

I separated the sentiment from the My Favorite Things Perk Up stamp set and stamped it onto the mug with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  To finish the card I framed it with the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle die and mounted it to a top-folding card base!

I’m having so much fun with the Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!  I encourage you to join in the fun by creating coffee, tea, or cocoa-themed cards or just visiting some of the cards for inspiration!  Again, many thanks to Amy Tsuruta for putting this together!

GIVEAWAY

I will be selecting one random commenter to win a $25 gift card to My Favorite Things!  I will be posting several times during the Hop…each post you comment on will give you a chance to win!  Also, subscribing to my blog via the button on your right will give you another chance (and if you’re already a subscriber, I’ll count that as an entry, too!)! :)

That’s quite an addiction there… but I’d say your shaker card proves some addictions can be a good thing, wink 🙂
