A new design team and a colorful holiday card!

16 Nov

Recently I decided to apply to a call for design team members for a weekly Christmas Card challenge blog and over the weekend I received the news that I’ve been invited to join the team!   So, as my official ‘hello’ to the blog,  I thought I’d participate in this week’s Color Challenge!  Plus it certainly doesn’t hurt that the color challenge uses some of my very favorite colors!

Here’s the inspiration photo for this week’s challenge:

Aren’t those fun, non-traditional Christmas colors?  And here’s my entry:

www.allthesparkle.comFor the teal shades I blended tumbled glass, peacock feathers, and evergreen bough distress inks onto the background piece to create a winter sky.  Then I used the birch trees die from Impression Obsession and cut them from Neenah desert storm cardstock for the brown shades.  I cut the birds and the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp schoolhouse red cardstock.  I love the lettering of the sentiment; it’s from the recent WPlus9 release, Hand-Lettered Holiday.  I cut the snowy hills from the Avery Elle Custom Panels die set.  For a little extra dimensional interest I used foam mounting tape to adhere two of the birch trees and then used a glue pen on the others.  I used my clear wink of stella glitter pen on the sentiment and birds and then finished the card with a little twine.

I’m also entering this card in the AEIHeartUChallenge for Holiday cards although I’m not sure if it will totally count since I’m using an Avery Elle die rather than a stamp…hmmm.

You know, I secretly listen to Christmas music in July and eagerly await the holiday XM channels in November so it’s fitting that I’ll get to share holiday cards year-round!  I look forward to serving on the Christmas Card Challenge blog design team and I hope you’ll join us over there!
