And here’s what I created today!

Mondo Succulent by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Ellen Hutson

Today I used some of the new alcohol inks from Tim Holtz to color the gorgeous Mondo Succulent!  I started by stamping the Mondo Succulent onto heavyweight yupo paper with versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder.  If you’re coloring a stamped image with alcohol inks you’ll want to “seal” the ink with embossing powder otherwise it will run when the alcohol hits it.  Next I used Rosewood, Everglades, and Moss from the new Tim Holtz collection to color the image.  I also used Pebble and Sepia to color the dirt and planter.  Also, another tip, when you use alcohol inks to “paint” images make sure you use a synthetic brush as the alcohol will destroy good brushes.  This technique is best with super super cheap brushes! 😉 After I finished coloring the image I used diluted Pebble ink and alcohol to “paint” the background with a paper towel.  The texture of the paper towel created interesting patterns across the panel!

Once my painting was finished (and dry) I adhered it to a white card base.  Then I stamped the sentiment from Mondo Succulent onto black cardstock and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder.  I trimmed it down to a label and adhered it to the panel with foam mounting tape to finish the card!  I love using mediums in different ways and alcohol inks are so fun to use for painting! 🙂

To celebrate the release Ellen Hutson is giving away a $25 to one lucky commenter AND the entire March Essentials by Ellen release to another lucky commenter!!  Please comment before 11:59PM PST on Thursday, March 12th!  You should have arrived from Therese and Carly is your next stop!

Thanks so much for visiting and enjoy the hop!!

Jessica- your talents are always inspiring, but I’m appreciating you and them for a whole new reason beyond coloring and design combinations– this is the first instance I’ve seen of the mondo succulents coming from the *right* of the page, and darned if that doesn’t give it a whole new look all together! Thanks for reminding me to periodically look for ways to change my perspective!

Your card is fab! I really like the color selection of the succulents, adding a touch of pink in there. Your tips on technique and tools – the cheap brushes – are especially appreciated! I like the placement you chose with the stamp as well – having it go off the right side of the card! Very nice!
