Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #7: Watercoloring

19 Jun

Good morning!  It’s time for a new Lawn Fawnatics challenge and we’re challenging you to use watercolors on your creations!  I decided to use distress inks to create an unconventional hidden message slider card!

And when you slide the white strip…

I started by watercoloring the water and sky.  I taped a piece of watercolor paper to my work surface, wet it thoroughly and used a flat brush to blend distress inks across the paper.  I used Blueprint Sketch, Broken China, and Salty Ocean for the water and Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, and Wilted Violet for the sky.  I let those dry completely and then I added water droplets to the ocean.  Once it was totally dry I die-cut the blue panel with the Ocean Hillside Pop Up dies and trimmed the sky panel down to a 4.25″ by 5.5″ base.  I stamped the sentiment onto the top wave layer several times and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder.  I layered the bottom two waves and adhered them to the sky panel and then I die-cut the Slide On Over wavy die from the panel.  I used a double layer of foam mounting tape to adhere the sides of the panel to the background and regular adhesive to adhere part of the slider panel to the waves.

Next I stamped the shark from You Are Jawsome onto white cardstock and colored him with copics.  Then I die-cut him with the coordinating dies and die-cut the shark two more times using just white cardstock.  I curved the rest of the sentiment on my MISTI lid and then stamped it onto the bottom of one shark die cut.  I adhered that die cut to the back of the copic-colored die cut.  Next I cut a strip of acetate and adhered it to the back of the shark before layering my last shark die cut behind it to give it some stability.  Finally I stamped the arrow from Push Here onto a strip of white cardstock, folded it in half, and adhered it over the acetate strip.  I tucked the shark into the slider and moved him around with the strip!  He can be easily moved back and forth across the card or up and down to reveal the message!

And now it’s your turn!  We want to see your projects using our mood board as your inspiration!  You can link up your entries on the Lawn Fawnatics blog and I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!  Thanks so much for visiting and have a fabulous Monday!
