The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge Blog Hop (+GIVEAWAY!)

2 Nov

Good morning!  Today is the second day of Kathy Rac’s The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge and we’ve got something special to celebrate!  Today is the FIRST day of a THREE DAY blog hop to jumpstart your creativity. If you’re new to the coloring challenge or have any questions about the coloring challenge you can refer to this post.

If you are coming from Kim Kimmel Becker’s blog you are in the right place. To start at the beginning of the hop, head to The Daily Marker’s blog here.

Today I wanted to try something a little different and I combined distress ink watercoloring with copic marker coloring.  And here’s what I came up with!

This was also my first time using stamps from Unity Stamps and I’m in love with these Phyllis Harris designs.  If you know me on Facebook or Instagram you know that I’ve been having some rough times with my senior dog late this summer and fall.  We’re still going day by day but I’m learning to appreciate every moment we have together and thought this image from Unity Stamps and sentiment from Paper Smooches worked perfectly together.

To start off I masked off the sailboat in the image (it’s cute but not quite what I was going for) and then stamped the image and sentiment onto watercolor paper with versafine before embossing it with clear embossing powder.  Next I smooshed distress inks onto an acrylic block and watercolored the background.  I used spun sugar, picked raspberry, and shaded lilac for the sky; chipped sapphire, stormy sky, and salty ocean for the water; and mustard seed and wild honey for the sand.  Then I colored the girl and her dog with copic markers and added spectrum noir clear sparkle to her dress.  To finish the card I die-cut the Park Avenue frame from Mama Elephant with light grey cardstock and adhered it over the watercolored panel.  I’m really happy with the way it turned out…I think I might just frame it and keep it!

So what’s a hop without prizes!?!  12 crafty goodie bags, compliments of the wonderful Kathy Rac, will be given away to random comments left on the blog hop and instagram hop!  That’s TWELVE CHANCES TO WIN during the three day hop.  The more you comment on each blog or instagram photo, the more chances you have of winning.  The full list of winners will be announced Wed. Nov 16th on Kathy’s blog!

Now it’s time to hop to the fabulous Lisa Tilson!

Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you’ll join in the fun this month. Be sure to use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day so we can find your work or you can join the Facebook group here.

It’s gorgeous Jessica, I love how you combined both mediums and created such a beautiful card, it’s so tranquil. I understand about your dog, we lost ours about 2 months ago, so treasure those moments you have. We had our Daisy for 12 years and feel so lucky she was in our lives for so long (she lived a long time for a Newfoundland :))

Your card is lovely! Hang in there and just enjoy the time you do have with your sweet pup. We lost both of our senior dogs last year and it was so hard to experience, but I wouldn’t trade the pain of losing them for the joy of having them in our lives!
