The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge Blog Hop (+GIVEAWAY!)

2 Nov

Good morning!  Today is the second day of Kathy Rac’s The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge and we’ve got something special to celebrate!  Today is the FIRST day of a THREE DAY blog hop to jumpstart your creativity. If you’re new to the coloring challenge or have any questions about the coloring challenge you can refer to this post.

If you are coming from Kim Kimmel Becker’s blog you are in the right place. To start at the beginning of the hop, head to The Daily Marker’s blog here.

Today I wanted to try something a little different and I combined distress ink watercoloring with copic marker coloring.  And here’s what I came up with!

This was also my first time using stamps from Unity Stamps and I’m in love with these Phyllis Harris designs.  If you know me on Facebook or Instagram you know that I’ve been having some rough times with my senior dog late this summer and fall.  We’re still going day by day but I’m learning to appreciate every moment we have together and thought this image from Unity Stamps and sentiment from Paper Smooches worked perfectly together.

To start off I masked off the sailboat in the image (it’s cute but not quite what I was going for) and then stamped the image and sentiment onto watercolor paper with versafine before embossing it with clear embossing powder.  Next I smooshed distress inks onto an acrylic block and watercolored the background.  I used spun sugar, picked raspberry, and shaded lilac for the sky; chipped sapphire, stormy sky, and salty ocean for the water; and mustard seed and wild honey for the sand.  Then I colored the girl and her dog with copic markers and added spectrum noir clear sparkle to her dress.  To finish the card I die-cut the Park Avenue frame from Mama Elephant with light grey cardstock and adhered it over the watercolored panel.  I’m really happy with the way it turned out…I think I might just frame it and keep it!

So what’s a hop without prizes!?!  12 crafty goodie bags, compliments of the wonderful Kathy Rac, will be given away to random comments left on the blog hop and instagram hop!  That’s TWELVE CHANCES TO WIN during the three day hop.  The more you comment on each blog or instagram photo, the more chances you have of winning.  The full list of winners will be announced Wed. Nov 16th on Kathy’s blog!

Now it’s time to hop to the fabulous Lisa Tilson!

Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you’ll join in the fun this month. Be sure to use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day so we can find your work or you can join the Facebook group here.

Hi Jessica! First of all, I am SO very sorry to hear that you are going through such a tender time with your beloved dog. I truly understand, even without knowing all of the details.

Secondly, I love all things of Phyllis Harris, and UNITY STAMPS never disappoint me. I love the one of the girl walking straight into the rain…face straight up and out. (No I don’t work for them!) I haven’t bought the stamp you used because it makes me cry.

Your card is awesome! I love all of the brilliant colors! I especially like the colors you chose for the sky! And by combining such a free-moving technique for the larger elements, it really draws they eye to your coloring with Copics of the girl and her best friend. I really like how you gave the fabric of her outfit some sparkle!

Thank you for sharing on this blog hop.

What a beautiful, peaceful, serene card you made. It reminds me of our vacations on The Cape and swimming in the ocean and looking out at the water and seeing nothing but water. Its like she’s waiting for a boat to come in or just looking out over the horizon wondering what is way out there. I miss those vacations and your card is bringing back some really nice memories. I also really love your coloring. The blue colors are so pretty and I love the pink sunset color. At least I am guessing that is the sunset. Thanks for the memories.
