Runway-inspired Challenge #76

20 Jan

ric#76

I’m entering a new (to me) challenge today!  Runway-Inspired Challenge takes the latest trends and fashions from the runway and asks crafters to make creations based on the fashions!  It’s like the paper-crafting version of Project Runway…and I can totally get behind that! 😉

Anyway, I’ll be honest…when I saw the inspiration photo on my phone last night I was convinced that the orange in the top was a koi fish.  Of course, when I looked at it on my computer this morning I realized that I was totally wrong…but I was already stuck on this koi idea.  So I decided to run with it…and here’s my card:

Runway-inspired challenge #76I’m super pleased with the way it turned out!  I started off by stamping the Jessica Lynn Original Koi Fish stamp onto Tim Holtz Watercolor paper and heat-embossing it with Ranger platinum embossing powder.  Then I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors to color the fish and the surrounding swirl of water.  It’s not easy to see in the photo but I finished the water by going over it with the shimmery pearlescent color from the Gansai Tambi palette.  I stamped the sentiment from the WPlus9 Hand-Lettered Thanks set with Versamark Onyx Black and scattered a few Pretty Pink Posh pumpkin sequins around the fish.

I trimmed the watercolor piece down by a half an inch and adhered it to a black card top-folding card base.  I wanted to add a little more orange, similar to the bright orange buckle on the model, so I painted a scrap piece of watercolor with the same bright orange color I used on the body of the fish and trimmed it down to a quarter inch strip.  I layered that strip between the watercolor piece and the black base for an extra pop of color!

Again, really fun challenge and I hope my interpretation of the fashion makes sense to someone besides me… 😉
