A Blog Named Hero Challenge: Bright and Bold

10 Mar

This week A Blog Named Hero is challenging you to create something bright and bold!  It’s been a long and dreary winter (at least in Virginia!) and this was a much-needed and much-appreciated challenge!  This month we are collaborating with Create A Smile Stamps and I thought the cute chameleon from the Jungle Fever set would be perfect for a bright and bold card!

I started my card by painting a piece of watercolor paper with Peerless watercolors in shades of blue and green.  Once it was dry I prepped it with a powder tool.  Then I taped the Hero Arts Triangle Patterned stencil onto the watercolor paper and inked it with Versamark.  Once it was thoroughly inked I removed the stencil and heat-embossed it with clear Hero Arts embossing powder.  After the powder was melted I rubbed a Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad over the paper until the background surrounding the triangles was solid black.  The embossing powder resists the ink pad which leaves behind the brightly colored triangles!  A little ink does smear onto the triangles but is easily removed with a dry paper towel!

Next I die cut a rectangle of watercolor paper from the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die set and painted it with the same Peerless watercolors.  I used less water so that the colors would be darker.  Then I stamped the sentiment and critter with Versamark Onyx Black ink and heat-embossed it with clear powder.  I stamped the chameleon’s tongue on red cardstock with Mama Elephant Apple pigment ink, heat-embossed it, fussy cut it, and attached the base of the tongue to the chameleon.  Since it’s only attached at the base of the tongue it moves a little which is fun!  I went over the chameleon with my wink of stella clear glitter brush for a little extra sparkle and added a googly eye!

Create a Smile Jungle Fever www.allthesparkle.comTo finish the card I trimmed down the background piece and mounted it to a top-folding black cardstock base.  Then I cut a second rectangle of black cardstock with the same die from Simon Says Stamp and used it as an offset mat for the chameleon and sentiment!

I hope you’ll join in the fun and create something Bright and Bold using Hero Arts (and Create A Smile) products for the challenge!  The challenge runs until March 19th and we look forward to seeing your creations!

As always, thanks to our very generous sponsor, Simon Says Stamp:
